Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Malappuram is a fully residential, co- educational institution established in the year 1988 in accordance with the National Policy of Education 1986 under Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
The Minister of HRD, Govt of India, is the Chairman of the Samiti, the Minister of State, HRD (Edn) is the Vice Chairman. The Commissioner is the executive head of the administrative pyramid who executes the policies laid down by the Samitiís Executive Committee.
Locally the Vidyalaya Management committee manages each Vidyalaya and the District Magistrate is the Chairman of the VMC. The Navodaya Vidyalaya System is a unique experiment unparalleled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them with quality education comparable to the best in a residential school system.
Accordingly, JNV Oorakam has got students from 14 different blocks of the district and the present strength is 4---- studying in classes from VI to XII.
- To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children from rural areas without regard to their familyís socio-economic condition.
- To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in Three Language Formula; and
- To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities
